Air Farce, Intelligence, and TV myths on the TV, Eh? podcast

I’m particularly excited by this Sunday’s TV, eh? Blogtalkradio show. Why? Not only does it promise to be entertaining, what with the funny and smart guests, but I have a de facto co-host in Bill Brioux, the Canadian Press TV critic who also has an entertaining blog, TV Feeds My Family. He’ll lead the first interview with Roger Abbott of the Royal Canadian Air Farce, who recently announced this upcoming season will be their last. Then I’ll talk to Bill about his book, Truth and Rumours: The Reality Behind TV’s Most Famous Myths, before we’re joined by Chris Haddock, the creator of Da Vinci’s Inquest and Intelligence, the first season of which was just released on DVD.

Listen live this Sunday, May 4, at 11 am Pacific/2 pm Eastern — and feel free to call in at 646-200-4063 with your questions or opinions — or listen to the archived podcast later.

In the news: Knowing when to pull the plug

From Cassandra Szklarski of the Canadian Press:

  • Beware the shark: tough for TV shows to know when to pull the plug
“Whatever you do, avoid the shark. That’s the understood mantra when it comes to determining when to end a hit TV series before it declines into tragic self-parody, but not every show manages to escape such a fate. “Corner Gas” recently announced it would go out at the top of its game, while longer-running shows such as “ER” and “The Royal Canadian Air Farce” announced finales to sighs of relief.” Read more.

In the news: Air Farce deserves decent sent-off

From Robert Cushman of the National Post:

  • AF07 211Give Air Farce an honourable discharge
“For the last 10 years I have missed The Royal Canadian Air Farce — missed it, in fact, as often as I could. But now that I will really have to miss it, with the announcement that the show’s next season will be its last, I find myself becoming nostalgic. Watching the next-to-last season’s finale, which went out last Friday, reminded me that the Air Farce regulars are real comic talents, however familiar their format and bland their material.” Read more.
