“Five is a strong person, but I worry about her, because she has her limits and can only handle so much. For me, it’s been a wonderful acting challenge to play that balance and show that my character is vulnerable, but at the same time I don’t want her to look weak. Five can take care of herself, but things are definitely getting more and more difficult as well as dangerous for her along with the rest of the Raza crew this season.” Continue reading.

Dark Matter: A familiar face returns to wreak havoc on the Raza crew

Season 3 of Dark Matter is just getting better. Not only has The Android gotten some key scenes to play in and out of costume but last week’s episode expanded Adrian Maro into a fully-fleshed character we care about … and laugh at. And with Ferrous Corps’ fleet already departed, things don’t look good for the crew of the Raza, or anyone really.

It’s hard to believe we’ve already arrived at Episode 6 of this season, but rather than get down, let’s talk about “One More Card to Play,” written by Alison Hepburn and directed by Gail Harvey. Here is Space’s official synopsis:

Familiar faces from the past return, causing havoc and forcing our crew to scramble to save their already damaged reputations.

And here are some fun tidbits we gleaned from watching a screener.

Ryo is on the warpath
I certainly understand his anger—there was an assassination attempt on his life after all—but is targeting the man accused and his family focusing on the right person or people? And just who are those two clan members who don’t seem to fit in with the rest of the group?

In sci-fi TV, you never know who may return …
We’re not giving anything away that will ruin the surprise, though perhaps the producers should have kept someone’s name out of the opening credits.

… and don’t accept everything you see as fact
We were mighty confused by some of the decisions made by our heroes until midway through the episode. The payoff is worth it.

Dark Matter airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on Space.

From Kelly Townsend of The TV Junkies:

“Mishka did such a good job in the audition. His first day he came in, we asked for a little adjustment, and he just made the character his. He was terrific, kind of an everyman sort of person in that he’s clearly in way over his head with the crew of the Raza, whereas when comparing him to Five (Jodelle Ferland) and he points out, “hey, she’s just a kid, she’s the one who’s in over her head,” but in reality, Five’s come such a long way. Clearly he’s the one who has a lot more growing than she does.” Continue reading.

From Jeff Fountain of Geek Chic Elite:

“My character clearly falls down on one side and is becoming a better person but he still is unpredictable, you don’t always know how he’s going to react and that is the essence of this character and I really hope that line is walked for the entire longevity of this series because then it ends up being fun to play, fun to watch and probably fun to write, too.” Continue reading.

Dark Matter: Five for fighting

Whoa, last Friday’s episode of Dark Matter was really something, wasn’t it? Aside from the countless humorous moments courtesy of Three we got a sobering peek at what the future looks like thanks to The Android’s conversation with future Five. “All the Time in the World” really was a landmark instalment for the series and now we’re itching to discover if that dire future is really what’s in store or if the timeline can be changed.

So, what does this week’s new episode “Give It Up Princess”—written by Paul Mullie and directed by Bitten‘s J. B. Sugar—have in store? Here’s the official description:

The crew of the Raza track a data file across the galaxy in an attempt to strike a blow against Ferrous and save the life of a young woman.

And we’ve got more tidbits after watching the episode!

Five gets physical
She’s pretty great handling weapons, but Solara believes hand-to-hand combat is just as important. That leads to an interesting and emotional back story tale from Solara that makes us like her even more than we already did. As for Five, she gets to flex her comic muscles a bit this week and is a key component to the A-plot.

Where is Tabor?
The search takes the Raza to a planet where Tabor has a safe house with treasured items secreted away there. Of course, Adrian’s eagerness to go there puts everyone’s lives in jeopardy. What would Dark Matter be without drama?

MMA fighter lands guest role
British mixed martial arts athlete Michael Bisping drops into the world of Dark Matter on Friday in a key role. Does he perform any signature moves on our heroes? You’ll have to tune in to see.

As for The Android and that red dress…
We’re speechless.

Dark Matter airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on Space.
