unnamed

From a media release:

The Montréal Canadiens and Bell today announced the return of the hotly anticipated documentary series 24CH, airing weekly on RDS, Canal D, CTV Montréal, Bell Local and the Bell TV app. Bell customers can access 24CH Premiere on the Bell TV app, and 24CH The Quiz, a new fan interactive segment for this season, on Bell Local from Fibe TV.

New for the third season of the program, 24CH production teams will follow key Canadiens players on their days off to give a personal perspective on the star athletes, capturing players’ everyday lives, visiting their home towns, and meeting their families.

“The last season of 24CH was the first time a professional sports team offered its fans a weekly series for an entire season, and the overwhelming response resulted in even more programming,” said Kevin Gilmore, Chief Operating Officer for the Montréal Canadiens. “This season, we’ll better acquaint fans with the players and other members of the organization, showing them both at work and outside the Bell Centre and the Bell Sports Complex. We’ll discover the Canadiens’ world and its global scope by visiting our players’ home towns and CH fans worldwide, along with the places where they get together.”

24CH season three will explore the entire organization, revealing the strategies behind the global impact of the Montréal Canadiens and share passionate fan stories from across the country and around the world. This new season also introduces 24CH The Quiz, which will test the fans’ Canadiens knowledge in a fun and engaging format. Hosted by Geneviève Langlois, 24CH The Quiz is available on demand on Bell Local.

Link: Is Canadian TV ready for Canadian superheroes?

From Sean Tepper of the Toronto Star:

Are Canadian superheroes ready for TV close-up?
As for Hakim, his five Captain Canuck webisodes have garnered more than 60,000 views on YouTube with a voice cast that includes the likes of Laura Vandervoort (Bitten, Smallville), Kris Holden-Ried (Lost Girl) and Critics Choice Television Award winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), it’s fair to argue the web series already has the talent necessary to land a network deal. Couple that with the success that recent Canadian shows like Bitten and Orphan Black have enjoyed, and there’s good reason to believe a northern protector could emerge in live action within the next five years. Link: State of Incarceration is Canadian TV at its best

From James Bawden:

State Of Incarceration: Canadian TV At Its Best
Make no mistake about it –these are dark days for Canadian public television threatened by government cut backs and dwindling ratings. And then along comes a special so powerful and forceful it will have you cheering for CBC-TV’s survival. It’s an hour titled State Of Incarceration written, directed and produced by veteran Andrew Gregg (We Will Remember Them)–a look at the federal Tories wrong headed determinations to spend billions more on incarcerating criminals. Gregg tells me he got the idea after reading an article in The Economist about the huge expenditure in building new jails in California and Texas. Continue reading.

EPI’s Discovery special aims for comet landing

unnamed

From a media release:

After 10 years travelling towards its destination, looping around the sun five times, and logging up 6.4 billion kilometers – Rosetta has arrived for the drop of a lifetime. Discovery’s LANDING ON A COMET: ROSETTA MISSION joins this pioneering space mission led by the European Space Agency – which has set out to eject Philae, a lander, onto the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Premiering same day as the scheduled landing, Wednesday, November 12 at 7 p.m. ET, and anchored by DAILY PLANET co-host Dr. Dan Riskin from Germany, the one-hour special from Canada’s Exploration Production Inc. (EPI) chronicles how the futuristic science lab will unleash powerful anchors to hold on to this comet. Why catch a comet? Once Philae lands, it will embark on the most incredible journey to gather and analyze what is considered a yet-unreachable primordial treasure chest. But a succesful landing is far from guaranteed. Scientists compare landing Philae on the comet to trying to drop a piece of paper from a Boeing 747 at cruising altitude over New York City and trying to hit… Central Park!

LANDING ON A COMET: ROSETTA MISSION is the pinnacle of a multi-decade space quest – and offers scientists clues to the beginnings of life itself. Designed to withstand the rigours of reckless speeds and turbulence in the solar system, the Rosetta orbiter will rendezvous with Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and remain in close proximity to the icy nucleus as it plunges towards the warmer inner reaches of the Sun’s domain. At the same time, a small washing machine-sized lander will be released onto the surface of this mysterious cosmic iceberg.

Active manoeveurs, stakes, and compelling make-it-or-break it drama make this a space mission for the digital age. Viewers are invited to join the Rosetta conversation NOW at Discovery.ca with behind-the-scenes videos from key players and a live feed pulling in real-time tweets from #67P and key experts! Viewers can also watch the latest update video from the European Space Agency on Rosetta’s mission status, and read articles breaking down everything they need to know about LANDING ON A COMET: ROSETTA MISSION. LANDING ON A COMET: ROSETTA MISSION is produced by Exploration Production Inc. Kelly McKeown is the Executive Producer.
